The Best Interests of the Child
In child custody cases, the court and the juries will almost always look at the best interest of the child in making sure that the child gets the best living conditions for his or her upbringing. For this reason, there are certain things that the courts look at, such as:
- The age of the child
- The living situation of each parent
- The willingness of each parent to support the child by keeping their relationship intact
- The relationship of the parent to the child prior to the divorce
- The preferences of the child
- The existence of neglect
- The stability of the parent in terms of his or her wellbeing
